Interview with Talia Wellish

Inspiring interview with Talia Wellish, campus coordinator for the Alexander Muss High School’s south campus in Be’er Sheva.

" I find it inspiring how the whole GCI team has been moving forward in resilience during these trying times."

Meet Talia Wellish, campus coordinator for the Alexander Muss High School’s south campus in Be’er Sheva. She lives in Carmei Gat, mother of one and another on the way, originally from Atlanta Georgia and then Ra’anana.

1. What is your role at the GCI, and in JNF in general?

At the GCI I have been working as a maternity leave replacement, working as the Social Media Marketing Coordinator. Most of what I do is post our images and videos and engage with the GCI online community across platforms. My main role at Jewish National Fund USA is campus coordinator of the new Alexander Muss High School’s south campus in Be’er Sheva. I coordinate the different groups that come to campus and ensure all their logistical needs are met.

2. What is one thing that inspires you about the GCI project?

I find it inspiring how the whole GCI team has been moving forward in resilience during these trying times. I’ve been working closely with people who have been giving this project everything they have got, in order to move forward, make progress, and stick to the original plan as much as possible.

3. What are the insights you have gained from being in charge of the GCI social media accounts?

I have been learning so much about innovation in culinary, especially in Israel. There are so many ideas that have come to life in the past few years that are changing culinary as we have known it until now. For example different alternatives to dairy and gluten, new ways of farming, this project has been eye opening for me.

4. Where and when did you have a life changing culinary experience?

Evey time I walk around the Shuk in Jerusalem I’m in awe of the diverse cultures coming together in one place. It shows how the people in Israel come from so many different places and backgrounds and together create something so unique and beautiful.

5. What's a fun culinary fact about you?

I ran a kitchen at a summer camp for three summers. I loved coming up with interesting recipes and new takes on kids' classics. We were always looking for ideas to ensure the kids were interested in the food we were serving without reverting to the basic Mac and cheese or pizza.
