Interview with Michele Bengualid

“The GCI is truly the first-of-its-kind culinary institute, and what is being developed is so much more than that.”

Michele Benualid was a participant in our Storytelling Summit and we liked her so much, that we wanted to learn more about her interest in the GCI and why she wanted to help us.

As a participant of GCI’s storytelling summit, was there a moment or a statement that stayed with you?

During the GCI storytelling summit, I was inspired by the consistent themes of innovation, creativity, and community. The GCI is truly the first-of-its-kind culinary institute, and what is being developed is so much more than that. I am excited to identify the main consumer-faced themes and experiences through all of the GCI’s different components and bring them to life through meaningful content.

What is the main social media focus/ goal for culinary profiles?

In my opinion, the main social media focus and goal for the culinary profiles should be connected through a unique storytelling approach that unites the culinary community, near and far. When engaging on social media, people look for a connection and something that provides value for them. With the GCI’s social, there is endless opportunity to break the standard schema on what education should be and reform that with a meaningful, unique, and hands-on approach.

When you hear the words: Israel, Galilee, Food, Culture, Innovation, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Excitement! Flavor! Inspiration! Food for me is deep in my heart. I am always on the lookout for the newest recipes, articles about chefs and restaurants, and my palette is beyond excited to experience culinary history through a modern lens.

What was it about GCI that intrigued you professionally?

By nature, I am a Sephardic Jew, and by profession, I am a creative storyteller (a.k.a social media professional). Food and connection are both in my DNA, and I am excited for the opportunity to combine my two passions further to help both JNF and the GCI launch this incredible new education center.

What's a fun culinary fact about you?

I almost never bake with a recipe! I’ve been cooking and baking since I can remember, and I understand the different formulas and ratios. From there, I like to experiment with flavor and textures to create something new every time.
